Invitation Letter Individuals requiring an official letter of invitation in order to attend the congresses can write to the Organising Secretariat. This procedure is designated to assist participants to obtain a visa or permission to attend the meeting and does not apply to registration fees or other expenses
Banking and Exchange Facilities
Foreign money can be changed at banks during normal business days (09.00-17.00 Monday-Friday) as well as at hotels, at the airport and in exchange offices in City center. Exchange rates are set daily by the Central Bank. Various banks have university branches on the main campus enabling people to solve all of their banking problems. Apart from these, many state and private banks’ ATM services distributed throughout the campus are also available for 24 hours. All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops. Automated bank machines are available at many points throughout the city, at the airport and in the campus.
Currency The Turkish currency is New Turkish Lira. The exchange rate for Turkish Lira as of December 2009 is USD 1= TRL 1,50 / EUR 1= TRL 2,20. Visa Requirements Participants are requested to check with the Turkish Consulate in their home country or with their travel agency or at http://www.mfa.gov.tr/default.en.mfa for visa requirements. Entry visa to Turkey can also be obtained at Istanbul Atatürk Airport for a number of countries.
Climate and Clothing
Trabzon has a mild climate all year round. Day and night temperature difference is not so high. Being situated along a sea-side and surrounded towards south by steep mountains running parallel to the coast, it receives rain sumetime in the summer. At the middle of July, daytime temperatures are in the range of 30-35°C and evening temperatures are 25-30°C. We recommend you bring light clothes. Beaches along the Black Sea coast are very helpful on summer days and provide the visitors with a pleasant atmosphere with sea water temperature around 23 oC.
Restaurants and Turkish Cuisine There is a wide choice of restaurants in Trabzon offering a broad spectrum ranging from excellent national cuisine to first class international dishes. Traditional Turkish cuisine is famous for its many specialties prepared with fresh vegetables. There are lots of quality restaurants as well as fast-food shops in the vicinity of the hotels reserved for this meeting.
Shopping One of the most enjoyable parts of a trip to Turkey is shopping for the rich variety of Turkish crafts. Trabzon is one of the a shopping centers with its Old Bazaar as well as the modern mall. Turkish carpets, kilims, suede and leatherwear as well as other items of clothing are the best buys. Copper, silver, brassware and jewellery are also choices for buying. In the Old Bazaar bargaining over the sale price with shop traders is sometimes expected.

Pay phones and credit card phones are available at the meeting venue, post Office at the campus and in the city.
Electricity The electrical power supply in Turkey is 220 volts.
Time Turkey is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Tipping Although service charge is included in most restaurants, leaving a tip at one's own discretion is appreciated. Travel within Trabzon It takes about 10 min from airport to the city centre (Meydan), 5 min to congress center and 5-10 min to hotels. Transportation within the city is by Minibus (Dolmus), by public bus or by taxi. All taxis have taximeters, and the rates are reasonable (almost 10 USD from airport to hotels or congress center). Regular public buses and dolmus running between the campus and the Meydan. 9-seated dolmuses leave for the campus when they are full, which usually takes less than 5 minutes at rush hours, and no more than 10 minutes outside the rush hours. Through similar services, transportation from the main campus and the Meydan to other locations is also easy to get. Dolmus or bus always starts and ends at Meydan and costs around 1 USD. If you need to go other side of city you will need to take two transportations, one from starting place to Meydan, the other from Meydan to wherever you want to go. There will be a SIP2010 Welcome Desk at the airport on 10-11 July 2010 to assist with transportation.
Internet Wireless internet connection is provided all around the campus including congress center
Social Facilities KTU Social Center, located on the coast of Bleack Sea, has students cafe, an olympic swimming pool, a restaurant, pastry, cafe, tennis, basketball and volleyball fields. In addition to these, there are other mini football fields, tennis courts, outdoor basketball and volleyball fields, and a squash field, as well as a modern stadium in the main campus. Hasan Polat Sports Hall, located also on the main campus, is designed for all kinds of indoor activities, ranging from basketbol to squash to weight-lifting, and to sauna-bath. Visitors can benefit from any of these facilities having purchased a ticket whose price varies from activity to activity. An hour of rent for tennis courts is about 2€. For team sports, sauna-bath and fitness center, the cost is 1€ per person per hour, for swimming pool 4 € for 4 hour of each period.
Health There are a variety of hospitals and private clinics in the city. To benefit from these health services, all visitors are strongly advised to have a valid international health insurance before coming to Turkey.
